About

Trio Pangea

The Pangea Trio arose from a shared desire to introduce audiences to 20th- and 21st-century music. The distinctive flavour of its output stems from its members’ choice to express their musical backgrounds through a repertoire that includes many performance premieres of new works, while simultaneously creating original interpretations of Classical and Romantic trio repertoire.

Formerly composed with Adolfo Rascón Carbajal (violin) and Teresa Valente Pereira (cello), the Trio is now continuing its journey as a new team with Léo Belthoise (violin) and Sara Chordà (cello). They are regularly invited to play in the most prestigious festivals and concert cycles of Portugal, Spain and France, such as the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in Lisbon, the Casa da Música in Porto, Cistermúsica in Alcobaça, the Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão (FIMM), International Music Festival in Leiria, Música em São Roque in Lisboa, Serões Musicais no Palácio da Pena in Sintra, Clásicos en Verano in Madrid, the Institut Français, Festival de l’Été Mosan, the Fundación Museo Evaristo Valle, Festival de Verano in Oviedo among others.

The trio frequently collaborates with contemporary composers such as Sérgio Azevedo, Alexandre Delgado, Nuno Côrte-Real, Alberto Colla, and dedicated their debut album Une Goutte d’Ombre to the music of Emmanuel Hieaux (Disques Coriolan). They regularly perform for the Portuguese national radio station RTP – Antena 2. .

The Trio Pangea is currently recording a Portuguese Piano Trios anthology for NAXOS. The third volume, to be released in 2023, is dedicated to the works of José Vianna da Motta, Armando José Fernandes and Nuno Côrte-Real.
